James A. Stevenson, Ph.D., M.D.

 

A board certified neurologist in practice since 1994, Dr. Stevenson serves the Pinellas County area with the MS Center of Pinellas located in Largo, Florida. He has joined the MS Centers of Florida Foundation Network of physicians to further his desire to find the best treatment for the MS patient.

Born in Orange, California, his education includes a BS in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1973 and his Ph.D. for work in developmental neurobiology from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia in 1980. He continued basic science research in brain development and central and peripheral nerve regeneration until leaving his position as Associate Professor of Anatomy at the Medical College of Virginia to attend medical school. He graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1990. Dr. Stevenson completed both his internship in Internal Medicine and his residency in neurology at the South Florida School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident in Neurology in 1994.

Dr. Stevenson is a member of the American Association of Neurology and American Headache Society. He is father to two daughters and is married to wife Bernadette. His hobbies include sailing, scuba diving and woodworking.
